Older cartridges have regular screws while newer generations will have a security screw that requires a special bit. If you are creative, attempt to fabricate your own bit.\u00a0 There are a few guides on the web that will show you how.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the screws and place on the side for reuse later, open the cartridge and remove the circuit board. I suggest you make your 30 second recording now. For this project we are recording the first 30 seconds of the Super Mario theme song.<\/p>\n<p>My sound module has two micro switches and a small microphone on top. One switch marked &#8220;R&#8221; is for recording and needs to be held for the duration of the audio capture. (You can re-record as necessary)\u00a0 The other is marked &#8220;P&#8221; and is obvious for playback of your recording. The small green circle at the bottom of the photo is the playback speaker. My module came with the batteries and also has an adhesive back.\u00a0 I would say the sound module I used is one or two steps up from a Hallmark card. If you need one it can be <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.etsystudio.com\/listing\/527553619\/add-sound-to-your-project-record-30\">purchased here for about $12.00 <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Step 3 &#8211; Remove the playback micro switch<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-384\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_887E6847-9243-4CFC-AF23-087B379B6C33-e1493383355586-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_887E6847-9243-4CFC-AF23-087B379B6C33-e1493383355586-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_887E6847-9243-4CFC-AF23-087B379B6C33-e1493383355586-150x103.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_887E6847-9243-4CFC-AF23-087B379B6C33-e1493383355586-768x529.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_887E6847-9243-4CFC-AF23-087B379B6C33-e1493383355586-1024x705.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_887E6847-9243-4CFC-AF23-087B379B6C33-e1493383355586.jpg 1683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Since we want the playback switch on the outside of the cartridge we need to relocate it by removing it and then extending with additional wiring.<\/p>\n<p>Warm up your soldering iron and heat the two connectors that are holding the playback switch. DON&#8217;T use too much heat as you could damage the switch and the traces on circuit board.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-385\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_694B468D-A947-4659-83D1-6DEB4BBF42F0-e1493383611599-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_694B468D-A947-4659-83D1-6DEB4BBF42F0-e1493383611599-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_694B468D-A947-4659-83D1-6DEB4BBF42F0-e1493383611599-150x101.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_694B468D-A947-4659-83D1-6DEB4BBF42F0-e1493383611599-768x519.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-09-53_694B468D-A947-4659-83D1-6DEB4BBF42F0-e1493383611599-1024x692.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Next prepare some thin light gauge wire (I used an old computer hard drive ribbon cable) strip and tin the ends and solder to the two connectors where you removed the switch. By now you should have the circuit board glued down, and the wire through the hole to the back of the cartridge.<\/p>\n<p>Strip and tin the ends of the wire. If you have &#8220;helping hands&#8221; use them to steady the switch.\u00a0 Using as little heat as possible melt the solder and connect the wire to the switch. Polarity does not matter in this <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-10-29_822585B0-BB74-476F-9EE9-527680E1DFCB-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-10-29_822585B0-BB74-476F-9EE9-527680E1DFCB-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-10-29_822585B0-BB74-476F-9EE9-527680E1DFCB-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-10-29_822585B0-BB74-476F-9EE9-527680E1DFCB-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Photo-2017-04-27-21-10-29_822585B0-BB74-476F-9EE9-527680E1DFCB-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>case so connect the wires in any order.<\/p>\n<p>Pull the wire slack back into the cartridge and close it up using the screws from step 1. I placed a dab of hot glue on the switch and hole to protect my solder joints and keep the switch in place.<\/p>\n<p>DONE!
