There have been a few hiccups along the way however for the most part\u00a0 the experience has been good and user disruption minimal, until I encountered Event ID 15021.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1037 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/P5_400x225_Exchange-Online-Plan-1-150x84.gif\" alt=\"Exchange\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/P5_400x225_Exchange-Online-Plan-1-150x84.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/P5_400x225_Exchange-Online-Plan-1-300x169.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Last night during a maintenance window I applied my Microsoft updates and rebooted the server. Shortly after reboot I attempted to open Outlook and it failed with a server unavailable error. OWA and ECP both showed BLANK white screens. I began to panic a little because this is probably the IT guys worst nightmare! Working in the industry for over 20 years I put my panic aside and began my standard troubleshooting procedure.<\/p>\n<h4>STEP 1 &#8211; Event logs are your friend<\/h4>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Immediately opening the System log I found 100&#8217;s of Event ID 15021 over and over about one per second<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1055\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1055\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Event15021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1055 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Event15021-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"Event ID 15021\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Event15021-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Event15021-150x104.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.webcommand.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Event15021.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Event 15021<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Launching my browser and a quick Google search lead me to believe there was an issue with the SSL certificate I applied to the server a few weeks before. I attempted to reassign the SSL cert in IIS manager and then an IISRESET but it didn&#8217;t help.<\/p>\n<h4>STEP 2 &#8211; Ask Google for help -Event ID 15021<\/h4>\n<p>Finally I found Adam1115&#8217;s blog and read this short article which pertained to Exchange 2013 :\u00a0 (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/adam1115sblog.blogspot.com\/2014\/03\/exchange-2013-blank-ecp-owa-screen.html\">LINK<\/a><\/strong>)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Y<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>ou have an exchange 2013, after some unknown event nobody can get to OWA or ECP (or any other IIS based resource including outlook.) \u00a0Instead, users get a login screen then a blank page.\u00a0 In the system event log, you see hundreds of id 15021 on the source HttpEvent that say \u201cAn error occurred while using SSL configuration for endpoint 0.0.0.0:444.\u00a0 The error status code is contained within the returned data.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>&#8211; Open the Command Prompt<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>&#8211; Run-<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>netsh http show sslcert<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>&#8211; This will show the certs, copy and paste this information into notepad.\u00a0 Under \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0IP:port\u00a0 \u00a0: 127.0.0.1:443, note the certificate hash and application ID.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>&#8211; Run this command-\u00a0 (Yes, I know there is no :444 listed in the output from the earlier command.)<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>netsh http delete sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:444<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>&#8211; Run this command.\u00a0 Replace certhas with the certificate hash and appid with the application ID you saved in notepad.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>netsh http add sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:444 certhash=123123123123123 appid=&#8221;{123123123123-1231231235}&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>&#8211; Reboot the server.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After following the above instructions the server rebooted and all services were accessible again, however the system switched back to the self signed certificate.
